PRECLINICAL LAB MANAGER
The Preclinical Lab Manager performs day-to-day lab bench functions, personnel management, procedural training, and data analyses in the Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center (BNAC) Preclinical Lab.
This position requires a highly creative individual with exceptional abstract problem-solving abilities and a rigorous attention to detail. Flexibility with regard to challenging tasks and assignment priorities is a must. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, particularly the ability to maintain clear and concise documentation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences
- Documented formal laboratory research experience or technician certification
- Experience working with laboratory animals
- Experience with basic laboratory operations
- Experience with laboratory safety procedures
- Self-starter w/minimal supervision
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience with data presentation, including the creation of reports, figures, tables and graphs for publication
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in Biomedical or Life Sciences
- Experience with bench work involving molecular biology, biochemistry, sterility, biohazards, histopathology
- Proficiency with holding, scruffing, injecting, drawing blood, and intracardial perfusion of laboratory rodents
- Experience with data analysis and scientific publication
- Experience maintaining inventory and balancing budgets
- Background in neuroscience or neuroanatomy
- Familiarity with MRI
- Experience leading projects and managing time
Duties and Responsibilities:
To provide research support at the Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center including:
- Laboratory animal colony maintenance, drug dosing, clinical monitoring, behavioral testing, collection and preservation of biomaterial samples
- Liaising with MRI staff to transport and position animal at MRI before and after scans
- Nucleic acid procedures such as RT-PCR and qPCR
- Molecular characterization such as ELISA, IP, and Western blotting
- Tissue sectioning, mounting, staining, and microscopic imaging
- MRI image processing
- Formulation and preparation of essential lab solutions and materials
- Record-keeping and inventory organization
- Data analysis and preparation of figures for presentation or publication
- Database management
- Training of students in laboratory procedures
- Managing laboratory task schedules
- Managing organization in personnel assignments and training records
- Maintaining proper organization, cleanliness, and functioning order of laboratory equipment and materials
- Liaising with building facilities and EH&S for a most effective work environment, including picking up shipments from receiving, proper disposal of biohazards, and proper disposal of hazardous chemicals
