SOFTWARE PROGRAMMER

 
The Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center is seeking a software developer to help maintain and expand the infrastructure underlying our quantitative image research. You will have the opportunity to help improve knowledge of neurological disease and the impact of treatments and interventions on the brain. Prior experience with academic research or imaging is not required, but extreme flexibility is. You may work in Ruby one day, Python the next, and then need to troubleshoot a Java pipeline the third. Our ideal candidate is someone who has a passion for continuous learning and the ability to be resourceful.
 
Responsibilities will include:

  • Web development for our internal neuroimaging analysis system (a medium-sized Ruby on Rails application)
  • Developing and maintaining pipelines for automating specific neuroimaging tasks (in a variety of languages and platforms)
  • Developing publicly available web-based systems for making our algorithms usable by others
  • Installing, compiling, and exploring new open source software tools for specific projects

Qualifications required:

  • Experience with multiple programming languages (preferably including Ruby or Python)
  • Comfortable with Linux and basic shell scripting
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with image processing
  • Working knowledge of HTML5 and responsive design
  • Experience working with virtual machines (VMware/Amazon AWS)

Education/Experience required:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
