The Preclinical MRI Unit works with the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center and the Comparative Medicine Laboratory Animal Facility at the University at Buffalo Clinical Translational Research Center in order to acquire and analyze magnetic resonance information on a multitude of species. With the Bruker 9.4 Tesla Small Animal Micro MRI, the Preclinical MRI Unit can analyze ultra-high field strength MRI of delicate structures in tissue samples and small animals such as mice and rats. With the Toshiba 3 Tesla MRI, the Preclinical MRI Unit can analyze high-field MRI of large snimals such as pigs. The goal of the team is to better understand the impact of various research conditions on multiple organ and organ systems, including changes in volume, tissue properties, and metabolite concentrations.
