SPINAL CORD IMAGINGspinal-cord-imaging.jpg

The Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center (BNAC) has validated three different measures for measurement of cervical cord atrophy on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and in normal controls (NC). There cervical cord absolute volume in mm3 (CCAV) and two normalized cervical cord measures were calculate: cervical cord fraction (CCF) = CCAV/the cal sac absolute volume, and cervical cord to intracranial volume (ICV) fraction (CCAV/ICV). The 3-dimensional CCAV measurement showed the largest differences between NC and MS patients, as well as between different disease subtypes.
